The MSPIHT coding algorithm is modified using Simulink model. Comparison of MSPIHT with SPIHT on different test images shows that for coding a 512×512, grey-level image, MSPIHT gives good peak signal-to noise ratio (PSNR) values and reduces memory. The SPIHT algorithm is used for quantization and coding of the wavelet coefficients. SPIHT is a high performance coder with the property of producing embedded bit-streams. The SPIHT consists of two passes, the ordering pass and the refinement pass.

The MATLAB files for the State-Table-based SPIHT (STS) image compression algorithm are being shared here. The STS algorithm shows better performance in terms of compression efficiency, complexity and memory requirement in comparison to SPIHT. Even at higher bitrates, it takes over JPEG2000. This paper presents wavelet based coding algorithm SPIHT to encode and compress an image data. The coding and decoding process is comparatively fast. The numerical results obtained using MATLAB shows that the output image has high value of PSNR with good compression ratio for low bit rate.
